Crawlspace Encapsulation
If you are worried about crawl space problems, crawl space encapsulation is a great solution. Encapsulation can be a preventative measure against moisture related issues. The process involves the addition of a heavy duty polyethylene moisture barrier to the floor of the crawl space. Generally crawl space floors are just dirt, which means moisture can travel in quite easily. Encapsulation also includes installation of a dehumidifier and drain pipe (if needed), sealed foundation vents, and insulated walls. There are many benefits that come from encapsulating your crawl space:
- Improved air quality in the home
- Increase in energy efficiency
- Reduction in mold and mildew
- Comfortable floors that don’t absorb cold air from below
- Increase in structural integrity of the foundation because wooden supports won’t rot from moisture problems and the ground surrounding the foundation won’t erode from water-related issues
- Elimination of pest problems in the space
